LEGENDARY CHARACTERISTIC IN “OLD MAN WITH ENORMOUS WINGS” BY GABRIEL GARCÍA MÁRQUEZ

Abstract

Since ancient times, myths are an inseparable part of literature. In particular, in modern and postmodern literature, myths come back in a completely new format, that is, the paranormal, anti-myth, and parodyical parody. The work titled “Old man with enormous wings” is one of the excellent short stories by Colombian great writer Gabriel García Márquez, representing the return of the myths in Márquez literature in particular and Latin America’s Realism of myth in general. The article will respectively decipher the motifs and symbols of myths in this work to prove that it is a typical short story containing characteristics of both myth and anti-myth.
