SCIENTIFIC BASIS OF GEOGRAPHICAL INDICATION FOR CANNA VERMICELLI PRODUCT OF BAC KAN PROVINCE

Abstract

Geographical indication (GI) is one of the industrial property objects, which consists of information about the geographical origin of a product from the country, territory or locality where it was produced. The protection and exploitation of the value of GIs for Vietnam's agricultural products is an important requirement when integrating into the international economy and competing in the international markets. This study aims to establish a scientific basis for building GIs for products of canna vermicelli in Bac Kan province. By using qualitative and quantitative analysis, combining statistical processing and comparison techniques and calculating frequency and verifying differences between features, the study has shown morphological features and the quality of raw material of canna, and in particular, the quality of canna vermicelli in Bac Kan province is different from other comparative geographical regions. The research results have provided reliable scientific data to build GIs for canna vermicelli products in Bac Kan province, enabling strict management of production
process, quality assurance, and brand development, promotion of products and improvement to the value and competitiveness of products carrying GIs on the market.
