Policies for Managing Outward Foreign direct Investment in Banking Industry: Experiences from China and Policy Implications for Viet Nam

Abstract

Expanding market, especially expanding foreign market, is a very important part of business strategies for all
commercial banks in order to look for new opportunities, increase its profits. The paper aims at analyzing legal
framework for outward foreign direct investment in banking and finance, and is structured into four parts. The
first part will explain rationale for commercial banks doing business in foreign countries. In the part 2 and 3, the
paper reviews and analyses experiences of managing outward FDI in banking and finance in China as well as in
Vietnam, respectively. Lastly, authors suggest policy implications for authorities in perfecting the legal framework
of OFDI in Vietnam
