Abstract

Poverty alleviation is one of the most foremost strategies executed by Vietnam government to guarantee good welfare
system. At the United Nations Millennium Summit in September 2000, 189 member States adopted the Millennium
Declaration and pledged to reach the eight Millennium Development Goals by 2015 including eradicate extreme poverty
and hunger. Vietnam government has built and performed a wide range of poverty reduction projects as well as variety
of promulgated policies for two decades to reach Millennium Development Goals successfully. Poverty rate fell sharply
from 58.1% in 1992 to 17.2% in 2012 and approximately 30 millions escaped poverty. However, Vietnam’s success has
created new challenges. For example, poverty – reducing achievements are lack of sustainability, the remaining poor
and new poor are still high rate and the low income could force the people that have already escaped poverty fall into
poverty circle again.
This report applied Multinomial Logit model to address and analyse fators that influent poverty probability of Vietnamese
households in 2012, used data from Vietnam houshold living Standard Survey conducted in 2012 then suggest some
poverty – reducing policies for Vietnam
