The need to improve research competencies of lecturers in the Information and Library Science

Abstract

Developing research competencies (RC) of lecturers to meet the demands of fundamental and comprehensive innovation in higher education has been identified as a critical requirement in recent years.      This article focuses on presenting the results of a case study on the RC of lecturers in the Library and Information Science (LIS) at the Faculty of Library and Information Science, University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH), Ho Chi Minh City National University (HCMC-NU). By analyzing secondary data and conducting interviews with 11 lecturers regarding their needs to enhance RC, the article presents the current state of RC activities and the needs to improve RC of lecturers. The research results show that lecturers in the LIS have achieved satisfactory RC results and have diverse needs to improve their capacity, with an emphasis on enhancing of theoretical models, research methods, data processing and presentation, publishing and applying research results in practice.
