STUDYING SOME COMMON MISTAKES OF GRADE 8 STUDENTS WHEN SOLVING THE PROBLEMS OF ANALYZING A POLYNOMI INTO FACTOR
Abstract
In the process of teaching and learning Mathematics, helping students realise and rectify mistakes would create favorable conditions for them to inculcate the knowledge and apply it to solve new problems. This study aims to investigate students’ mistakes when they learn the lessons of analytic polynomial problems (Algebra 8). This study aims to investigate of 40 test papers from students who studying in a secondary school located in Phu Yen province to identify the common mistakes. Then students participated the semi-structure interview to explain of the causes regarding to their mistakes and help correct them. Then, the author proposes some recommendations for teachers to help students improve their ability to detect and correct their mistakes. Teachers need to understand the causes of students' mistakes to come up with appropriate measures and teaching methods to help them correct mistakes effectively.
