Abstract

Food packaging plays an important role in the food industry with the main purpose of ensuring food quality until consumption. Currently, using synthetic polymers as food packaging is leading to a lot of arguments because it generates a significant amount of plastic waste, causing a burden to the environment. Recently, the trend of using biodegradable packaging based on natural resources has grown strongly to create a more sustainable and eco-friendly alternative. However, using natural biopolymers as packaging materials is facing some challenges such as low mechanical strength, poor barrier properties, and high sensitivity to storage conditions. Domestic and foreign research projects on combining nanotechnology with biological packaging in the food field, especially preservation packaging, obtains many outstanding benefits in ensuring the freshness and quality of foods, extending shelf-life, and reducing spoiled food during storage and transportation of some types of fresh fruit. This is one of the important databases for further research on the diversification of biological packaging in Vietnam
