Abstract

The article sketches the class structure and economic differences by class and by religious group in Phuoc Trach commune, Go Dau district, Tay Ninh province. Analysis is based on the data set of a survey conducted in 2020. Two classifications are used for the identification of classes. The first one includes four classes: middle class, non- and agricultural private businessmen, skilled working class, and un-skilled working class. The second classification consists of the five social categories based on the five occupational sectors: State managers, technicians, non-agricultural private businessmen, farmers, and workers. Economic differences in income and household’s assets by class and by occupational sector are remarkable. It should be noted that within each class or occupational sector, the dispersion of income and assets is very wide. In terms of the structures of education, vocational qualification, classes, and economic resources distribution, the Cao Dai population is generally in a lower position than the non-Cao Dai population. Economic differences by class within the Cao Dai population are also significant.
