Technology application in construction - overview of 3D concrete printing technology

Abstract

The construction industry is constantly looking for new ways to improve project efficiency and profitability, many new technologies has been being researched and applied in construction investment projects. However, traditional building methods have remained relatively unchanged for decades. 3D concrete printing (3DCP) is a promising new technology that has the potential to not only be an effective means of increasing project efficiency and profitability in the field, but also have positive environmental impacts. 3D concrete printing technology can allow construction without the use of formwork, which offers more benefits than the conventional method. While 3D printing techniques have been successfully applied in a wide range of fields such as aerospace and automotive, its application in concrete construction industry is still in its infancy. Over the past few years, various 3D concrete printing technologies have been developed.
