Abstract

In comparison with conventional types of current transformer, the

current transformer which works on the basis of Faraday Effect using optic fiber as the sensing element has many advantages such as greater level of insulation, being not affected by electromagnetic noise, broad and high-speed band, compact size, safety and so on.

However, the existence of the direct birefringence sources inside the sensing element affects the device sensitivity. To this end, many solutions have been given, and optical current sensors (OCSs) are an alternative promising solution for the existing sensor-mode current transformers.
