Abstract

Study on the control of the Aspergillus niger disease of peanut has demonstrated that the extract from leaves of the betel plant (Piper betle) could eliminate the disease. In laboratory conditions, treatment of peanut seeds with betel leaf extract at the concentration of 5% for 10 minutes has given the best result with the rate of normal sprouting of up to 84.4%. In net - house experiments, the combination of soaking the seeds in 5% betel leaf extract for 10 minutes and spraying potted plants with the extract solution 5% has shown that the rate of normal sprouting was 86.7% and the percentage of dead plants caused by the fungus Aspergillus niger was lowest (2.2%). In the field experiments, soaking the seeds with the 5% extract solution for 10 minutes combined with spraying the same solution on seedlings has brought the lowest rate of dead plants, indicating a very high efficiency of controlling Aspergillus niger (81.3%). The betel leaf extract has also shown a positive effect on the growth and development of peanut plant grown in the fields.
