Abstract

In digestive surgery, laparoscopic approaches have been widely applied in clinical practices due to outstanding advantages, including reduction of post-operative surgical site infection (SSI). However, it remains a high proportion of patients who experience this complication that leads to serious consequences. Surgical antibiotic prophylaxis (SAP) plays an important role supposed to be the most effective solution to control SSI risk for patients undergoing  laparoscopic digestivesurgery. This review was performed to summarize SAP recommendations of clinical guidelines, evidence from studies evaluating the effectiveness of utilizing SAP regimen, and risk factors for SSI after laparoscopic digestive surgery. Accordingly, clinicians can have an overview to develop an appropriate SAP regimen for patients in laparoscopic digestive surgery.
