Abstract
Objectives: Evaluate the mid-term outcome following endovascular thermal ablation (ETA) for chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) of the lower limbs.
Material and Methods: Uncontrolled interventional study on CVI patients treated by ETA from July 2016 to December 2020.
Results: 109 patients involved with 128 legs treated (95 laser ablations and 33 radio frequency ablations (RFA)), showed the elimination rate of saphenous reflux was 100%. Post-treatment VCSS (venous clinical severity score) reduction was 5.2 ± 2.1, no signification difference between two groups (laser vs RF) with p = 0.139. Post ablation complications were seen in 27 legs (21.1%), including hyperpigment (18.0%), numbness (2 legs, 1.6%) saphenous paresthesia and 1 phlebolitis (which was well-tolerated by antibiotics), no life threatening events, no signification difference between two groups. After follow-up mean time (14.4 ± 11.9 months), only 1 reoccured case was recorded (0.8%).
Conclusions: ETA in CVI improved well the VCSS, 100% reflux elimination, the recurrence rate was 0.8%.
